The Vedic Gayatri Mantra ,’Om! Bhoor bhuva Swah. Tat Savitur Varenium, Bhargo Devasya Dhee Mahi . Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat’ stands for Salutation to God the almighty, the supreme creator of the universe, the deliverer from the sins , to grant us the wisdom to motivate our karmas and intellect so that we may always pursue the path full of virtues and noble deeds free from evil karmas. The essence of the supreme mantra lies in the words intellectual wisdom to discriminate between the evil and the good. It is the intelligence that can steer us through this life.
The chanting of this supreme mantra can transform your life.
In the Mantra, ’Om Mani Padme Hum’ which is considered as the prime Mantra of the Buddhists, a similar view is expressed. Om Salutation to the Jewel of the mind(Mani) that has reached the Lotus (symbol of wisdom) of the Heart. According to His Holiness Dalai Lama ,the mantra means “ In dependence on the practice which is in invisible union of method and wisdom, you transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure body, speech and mind of a Buddha.” The Buddhists believe that chanting of this mantra brings wealth, health and happiness.
I can’t express the joy of my hard found mantras in a better way than in a poem,‘my ecstasy ’ which I had conceived in a fit of poetic frenzy on the last Birthday of His Holiness Dalai Lama
MY ECSTASY
When the lotus on my crown
Spreads its petals opening
To welcome
The healing light
Descending on me from heaven
And when the warmth of the descended light
Trickles down
Through my senses and my frame
Unstrained and unrestricted
Rejuvenating my spirits, my body and my mind
When my heart beats become slower and slower
The mind is calm
And is at eternal peace
The world around me looks
Glittering in glory with its divine colours
It is then
I can hear
The music in my ears
The sound of the sea waves
The birds chirping
The whispering morning breeze
And the trees dancing with joy away somewhere
That is my bliss
My ectasy, my love, my synergy
My ‘Gayatri Mantra’
And my ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’
